Another programmer starting another blog

I feel like I should start my blog with a post that is the typical “About Me”, who I am, what I do, why I’m a programmer, blah blah blah. Sitting down to write this post though I feel like there is a larger elephant in the room. Why do so many programmers start a blog? Why am I starting a blog? It seems like there are a million and one programmers that start their own blog / website / online presence / what have you. Just punch into google “programming blog” and see how many results come up:

I'm honestly not sure how they can manage to know that there are 378 million programming blogs in just over half a second, but there probably is a blog on the list that covers the topic.

Why start another blog then? Honestly, I’m not terribly sure. It seems to be the the thing that all the good programmers do. Honestly though this blog will probably be more beneficial to me than it will be to you. While I hope that it provides some value to you and you feel your time is well spent reading it, I’m really hoping that it provides value for my time more so. As a programmer it is so easy to focus so much on writing better code, learning new frameworks and patterns, being more organized all of these thigns to develop a better product. It is so hard however to focus on growing in things other than writing code. Things like communication, being active, arts, rest (relaxation, not state transfer) and being a better person in general.

I hope that this can be a place that I can scaffold out thoughts and refer back to them, track any growth (positive or negative) in my writing, communication, and programming ideals, and maybe even just have some fun. I hope to at some point post some pictures of the pets, or hikes I take. I hope to share some cool articles that I’ve read recently.

All of that being said, I hope you find something useful in reading my ramblings about programming, my life, and whatever else I put up here.
